Korean captain Park Ji-sung was off to a bright start as he set the standards for his upcoming season by scoring two goals and making one assist in his first preseason match for Manchester United.
On the 5th, Manchester United came to Dublin for a preseason game against an all-star side from the Airtricity League of Ireland in the newly opened Aviva Stadium. Park played 64 minutes in the match from the start of the game to until he was substituted out by Nani in the 19th minute of the second half.
In the 13th minute, Park scored a lucky goal to put Man Utd in the lead. Park’s low cross for Rooney was blocked by the defense but when the defense tried to clear the ball, Park’s block resulted in a comical goal.
Park made his assist for Owen’s goal in the 25th minute when he crossed a low ball from the left side of the box. Michael Owen picked up on the pass and impressively controlled the ball to lob it over the goalkeeper to score a wonderful goal and put Man Utd two goals ahead of the Irish representatives.
Park’s second goal occurred in the 63rd minute of the match. Jonny Evans’s ball from the left side was picked up by Park and then he proceeded to calmly shoot it into the top right corner of the net to change the scoreline to 5-0.
Additional goals from Antonio Valencia, Chicharito, Jonny Evans and a penalty kick by Nani as well as a goal from Dave Mulcahy set the final scoreline at 7-1. Man Utd will officially start their season on the 8th when they play against Chelsea for the Community Shield. After that match, Park will be expected to join the Korean national team in a friendly match against Nigeria.
