K-League 27th matchday: Suwon close in on Ulsan in playoff fight

With Ulsan Hyundai Horang-i inactive this evening, Suwon Samsung Bluewings took full advantage of the opportunity to close the gap between themselves and the side currently occupying the sixth and final championship playoff slot by defeating Busan I’Park at the Busan Asiad stadium.

Suwon recorded a victory by the same scoreline against the same opponents in Sunday’s FA Cup final, and they had Kim Doo-hyun to thank for the winner as he netted in the 29th minute to move Suwon to within four points of Ulsan with three matches remaining.

The battle of the league’s top two sides ended all square at the Seogwipo World Cup stadium as Choi Tae-wook’s first half opener for visitors FC Seoul was cancelled out in the 70th minute by Danilo Montecino Neco, a result which leaves FC Seoul top on 55 points with Jeju trailing two points behind them.

Dzenan Radoncic struck twice and Mauricio Molina got the third as Seongnam consolidated third spot with a 3-0 win away at Chunnam Dragons, whilst Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors’ Sohn Seung-joon’s last minute headed winner in front of just 1,102 at the Daegu city stadium moved his side up to fourth and kept defeated Daegu in fourteenth.

Yoo Byung-soo moved onto 22 goals for the current K-League campaign with a brace that put Incheon United 2-0 up at home to Gyeongnam by the 50th minute, however Lee Ji-nam struck back in the 88th minute and then deep into injury time Yoon Bit-garam rescued a point for the visitors.

At the lower end of the table there were wins for Pohang Steelers, for whom Hwang Jin-sung was on target to record a 1-0 win away to Daejeon Citizen, and also for Gangwon who defeated Gwangju Sangmu Phoenix by the same scoreline.
