Inch perfect Park Ji-sung cross downs Wigan

Korean superstar Park Ji-sung‘s fine first half display drove Manchester United past Wigan Athletic in its 2-0 win at Old Trafford on Sunday. The win put United level in points with league leaders Chelsea who lost its second straight match to Birmingham. Chelsea still lead the league due to its advantage in goal differential.

Contrary to the final scoreline, United were on immense pressure from the start of the match as Wigan’s physicality and pace caused all sorts of problems at the back for the home side. Charles N’Zogbia‘s daring runs from midfield and Hugo Rodallega‘s strong presence up front were two of United’s main causes for concern.

It was Park who put an end to Wigan’s positive spell just before the half time whistle with his third assist of the season in all competitions. Park, who was aggressive throughout the first 45 minutes with his runs at the Latics’ defense, played a brilliant diagonal cross into the box to find the head of Patrice Evra for the go-ahead goal.

The Korean was substituted in the 56th minute for Paul Scholes. United extended the lead shortly thereafter  with a Javier Hernandez goal.
