Bolton Wanderers held Manchester United at Reebok Stadium to a 2-2 draw in round six of the English Premier League on Sunday.
Back in Korea, the fans were eagerly anticipating the possibility of seeing their national team heroes on the pitch at the same time, and this wish was granted in the 54th minute as Park Ji-Sung came on for United to replace Ryan Giggs. It was the first ever meeting between Park and Bolton’s Lee Chung-Yong in the Premier League.
Lee, who started in his usual right winger position, was involved in both of Bolton’s goals and proved to be an active presence throughout the match until he was replaced by Robbie Blake in stoppage time.
The 22 year-old’s powerful shot five minutes into the match was nicked off a defender and won the corner kick which led to Zat Knight‘s go-ahead goal for Bolton.
United equalized in the 23rd minute thanks to a brilliant individual effort by Nani, but Bolton went back ahead just after the hour mark when Lee picked out Johan Elmander at the top of the box with an incisive direct pass from midfield. Elmander laid the ball off to oncoming Martin Petrov, who found the net as his shot deflected off Darren Fletcher.
However, United dug deep and prevailed as Michael Owen‘s 74th minute header following Nani‘s free kick was enough for the visitors return home with a point.
